About the Remote Desktop Pool pilot project:
The SMPH Shared Services IT team, has set up a pool of computers that will host the Adobe Creative Cloud Design Suite and Microsoft Office 2019 software. This is to be used by lab users, who do not have access to a UW-Owned computer. Typically this will be undergraduate lab students, or researchers, whose UW appointment does not allow free use.
This is a workaround solution to the campus contract with Adobe. There are some notable caveats, and it should be available on a “need-to-use” basis.
- When a remote session is disconnected, it will not be possible to reliably reconnect to the specific desktop, previously used.
- A disconnected session, is automatically logged out after 5 minutes. SAVE OFTEN
This should be helpful for lab users who are unable to access a lab computer, with the only other option being a personal purchase of the software.
