Microsoft recently deployed security updates to fix printer security vulnerabilities in the Windows Print Spooler. Unfortunately, this update breaks the network printing for any non (domain) managed computers (i.e. personal computers).

Method 1, and Method 2, in the below listed article, are known workarounds for this issue. Using these methods, will cause your computer to become less protected from possible future, and current vulnerability exploits.

This is issue is likely to be fixed in a future Microsoft update, however there is not a timeline at the moment for when this will occur.  Preferred options for printing to avoid rolling back to a less secure platform:

  • Use an SMPH IT managed lab computer
  • Connect printer directly to the computer via USB cable.
  • No labels
